Background of Priesthood:
God commanded Moses to take Aaron his brother, and his sons with him, from among the Children of Israel, that he may minister to God in the Priest’s office (Exodus 28:1)
Then God said to Aaron that: “You and your sons and your father’s home with you shall bear the iniquity related to the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity associated with your Priesthood” (Numbers 18:1).
Therefore you and your sons with you shall attend to your Priesthood for everything at the altar and behind the veil; and you shall serve. I give your Priesthood to you as a gift for service, but the outsider who comes near shall be put to death. (Number 18:7).
God’s commands to the Priest’s office and Guidelines of Service
10 ‘He who is the high priest among his brethren, on whose head the anointing oil was poured and who is consecrated to wear the garments, shall not uncover his head nor tear his clothes; (Leviticus 21:10)
For a full list of most of the commands read Leviticus 21:1-24; 22:1-33; 23:1-44;
Reward to Priest’s office:
But the Levites have no part have no part among you, for the Priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance….. (Joshua 18:7)
And indeed those who are of the sons of Levi, who are of the sons of Levi, who received the Priesthood, have a commandment to receive tithes from the people according to the law, that is, from their brethren, though they have come from the Loins of Abraham (Hebrews 7:5). To find out all what was given to the Priest’s office read Numbers 18:8-32
Priesthood was spoiled by the priests themselves:
The Priests did horrible things in the house of the Lord like vomiting on the tables, sleeping with women, mismanaging the sacrifices and offerings (greediness of the highest order), etc. Below are scriptures from the Holy Bible which talk about the same issues:
But they also have erred through wine,
And through intoxicating drink are out of the way;
The priest and the prophet have erred through intoxicating drink,
They are swallowed up by wine,
They are out of the way through intoxicating drink;
They err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
8 For all tables are full of vomit and filth;
No place is clean.
9 “Whom will he teach knowledge?
And whom will he make to understand the message?
Those just weaned from milk?
Those just drawn from the breasts?
1 Samuel 2:22-25
22 Now Eli was very old; and he heard everything his sons did to all Israel,[a] and how they lay with the women who assembled at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 23 So he said to them, “Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings from all the people. 24 No, my sons! For it isnot a good report that I hear. You make the Lord’s people transgress. 25 If one man sins against another, God will judge him. But if a man sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?” Nevertheless they did not heed the voice of their father, because the Lord desired to kill them.
1 Samuel 2:12-17
12 Now the sons of Eli were corrupt;[a] they did not know the Lord. 13 And the priests’ custom with the people was that when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fleshhook in his hand while the meat was boiling. 14 Then he would thrust it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; and the priest would take for himself all that the fleshhook brought up. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. 15 Also, before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant would come and say to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat for roasting to the priest, for he will not take boiled meat from you, but raw.”
16 And if the man said to him, “They should really burn the fat first; thenyou may take as much as your heart desires,” he would then answer him, “No, but you must give it now; and if not, I will take it by force.”
17 Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord, for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.
Change of Priesthood:
Because of the Transgression of the Jewish Priests, God established a new Covenant with many and he made the first covenant old; Hebrews 8:7-13
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. 8 Because finding fault with them, He says:“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds[a] I will remember no more.”[b]
13 In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. Also, consider Jeremiah 31:31-34
For the Priesthood changed and so the law concerning the same changed and the Jewish Priests considered NOT the new changes because they never accepted Jesus/ Yeshua and up to now the Priests are a very huge stumbling block for majority of the Jews to accept Jesus’s/ Yeshua’s true Faith Hebrews 7:11-12
11 Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be called according to the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.
(The Jewish High Priest proved that he was NO LONGER the true High Priest when he tore His Clothes [Mathew 26:65] yet it was commanded to them by God never to tear his clothes [Leviticus 21:10]
Jewish Priests and Elders killed Jesus/ Yeshua Not Politicians: (Jewish Priests never welcomed Jesus/ Yeshua as the High Priest and so they never listened to him; they avoided people from accepting Him and they killed Him):
Jesus/ Yeshua knew where the problem was and so targeted the Priest and that is why he told the leper he had healed to testify to no man but to the Priest; Luke 12:14 12 And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
13 Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him. 14 And He charged him to tell no one, “But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded.”
Matthew 26:47, 57, 59-66
47 And while He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, with a great multitude with swords and clubs, came from the chief priests and elders of the people.
57 And those who had laid hold of Jesus led Him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
59 Now the chief priests, the elders,[a] and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death,
60 but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none.[a] But at last two false witnesses[b] came forward 61 and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’”
62 And the high priest arose and said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” 63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!”
64 Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! 66 What do you think?”
They answered and said, “He is deserving of death.”
When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people plotted against Jesus to put Him to death. 2 And when they had bound Him, they led Him away and delivered Him to Pontius[a] Pilate the governor.
3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.”
And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!”
5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
6 But the chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price of blood.” 7 And they consulted together and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus. 21 The governor answered and said to them, “Which of the two do you want me to release to you?”
They said, “Barabbas!”
22 Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?”
They all said to him, “Let Him be crucified!”
23 Then the governor said, “Why, what evil has He done?”
But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let Him be crucified!”
24 When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but rather that a tumult was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, “I am innocent of the blood of this just Person.[a] You see to it.”
