The only Bible Verse that talks about 25th December; as a day when King of Judah was released from Prison by King of Babylon and NOT as a day Jesus was Born

Jeremiah 52:31-34

New King James Version (NKJV)

Jehoiachin Released from Prison

31 Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evil-Merodach[a] king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah and brought him out of prison. 32 And he spoke kindly to him and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. 33 So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life. 34 And as for his provisions, there was a regular ration given him by the king of Babylon, a portion for each day until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

HISTORY OF CHRISTMAS

In ancient pagan times, the last day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere was celebrated as the night that the Great Mother Goddess gives birth to the baby Sun God. It is also called Yule, the day a huge log is added to a bonfire, around which everyone would dance and sing to awaken the sun from its long winter sleep.
In Roman times, it became the celebrations honoring Saturnus (the harvest god) and Mithras (the ancient god of light), a form of sun worship that had come to Rome from Syria a century before with the cult of Sol Invictus. It announced that winter is not forever, that life continues, and an invitation to stay in good spirit.
The first day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere occurs between the 20th and 22nd of December. The Roman celebrated Saturnalia between 17 and 24 December.

The early Christians

To avoid persecution during the Roman pagan festival, early Christians decked their homes with Saturnalia holly. As Christian numbers increased and their customs prevailed, the celebrations took on a Christian observance. But the early church actually did not celebrate the birth of Christ in December until Telesphorus, who was the second Bishop of Rome from 125 to 136AD, declared that Church services should be held during this time to celebrate “The Nativity of our Lord and Saviour.” However, since no-one was quite sure in which month Christ was born, Nativity was often held in September, which was during the Jewish Feast of Trumpets (modern-day Rosh Hashanah). In fact, for more than 300 years, people observed the birth of Jesus on various dates.

In the year 274 AD, solstice fell on 25th December. Roman Emperor Aurelian proclaimed the date as “Natalis Solis Invicti,” the festival of the birth of the invincible sun. In 320 AD, Pope Julius I specified the 25th of December as the official date of the birth of Jesus Christ.

AD is short for Anno Domini, or “Year of our Lord,” as proclaimed by the Roman Catholic Church. Some non-Christians prefer the alternative designation “CE” for “Common Era.”

Christmas official, but not generally observed

In 325AD, Constantine the Great, the first Christian Roman emperor, introduced Christmas as an immovable feast on 25 December. He also introduced Sunday as a holy day in a new 7-day week, and introduced movable feasts (Easter). In 354AD, Bishop Liberius of Rome officially ordered his members to celebrate the birth of Jesus on 25 December.

However, even though Constantine officiated 25 December as the birthday of Christ, Christians, recognizing the date as a pagan festival, did not share in the emperor’s good intentions. Christmas failed to gain universal recognition among Christians until quite recently.

In England, for instance, Oliver Cromwell banned Christmas festivities between 1649 and 1660 through the so-called Blue Laws, believing that Christmas should be a solemn day.

When many Protestants escaped persecution by fleeing to the colonies all over the world, interest in joyous Christmas celebrations was rekindled there. Still, Christmas was not even a legal holiday until the 1800s. And, keep in mind, there was no Father Christmas (Santa Claus) figure at that time.

Christmas becomes popular

The popularity of Christmas was spurred on in 1820 by Washington Irving’s book The Keeping of Christmas at Bracebridge Hall.

In 1834, Britain’s Queen Victoria brought her German husband, Prince Albert, into Windsor Castle, introducing the tradition of the Christmas tree and carols that were held in Europe to the British Empire.

A week before Christmas in 1834, Charles Dickens published A Christmas Carol (in which he wrote that Scrooge required Cratchit to work, and that the US Congress met on Christmas Day). It was so popular that neither the churches nor the governments could not ignore the importance of Christmas celebrations.

In 1836, Alabama became the first state in the US to declare Christmas a legal holiday.

In 1837, T.H. Hervey’s The Book of Christmas also became a best seller.

In 1860, American illustrator Thomas Nast borrowed from the European stories about Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children, to create Father Christmas (Santa Claus).

In 1907, Oklahoma became the last US state to declare Christmas a legal holiday. Year by year, countries all over the world started to recognize Christmas as the day for celebrating the birth of Jesus.

Have a merry Christmas

Today, many of the pagan uses are reflected in Christmas. Jesus was born in March, yet his birth is celebrated on December 25, the time of solstice. The Christmas celebrations end the 12th day of Christmas (January 6), the same amount of days that the return of the sun was celebrated by ancient and Roman pagans. It thus is no surprise that Christian puritans – or even conservative Christians – often are upset that Christmas “is not as religious as it was meant to be,” forgetting that Christmas was not celebrated at all until fairly recently.

  1. I just wanted to share that the Old Testament doesn’t go off of the calander we do. The Hebrew calander predates ours and is based on the moon, not the sun. The 12th month in this passage is not refering to december. It would be somewhere around mid February to mid March. In the Old Testament December 25th would would be in the 10th month. The two calendars are not in sync with eachother so the 25th of the 10th month on the Hebrew calendar would always fall on a different date of our calendar. That said, as far as I know there is no reference to specifically when Jesus’ birthday was. I believe Dec 25 was a date chosen by early Christians. Maybe they selected that date based on the verse you found since it relates to the destruction of the temple. Since in Christ there is a new temple perhaps they picked that date to come moratorium his birth? I dont know, its just a thought….all I really know is that when I became His disciple and let Jesus’ words / sayings / teachings shape all of my life it changed me completly into a new person, it took the tiredness and burdens away and gave me rest. It doesn’t matter to me when His birthday is, let’s celebrate it every day! 🙂 peace be to you!

      • Thank you very much Brother Stephen. I am in agreement with you. Even before I read your post I said in my mind that the date that Jesus was born means nothing to my salvation all I know is that Jesus came to this word, he suffer on the cross he died and resurrected for me so that I will no longer face the consequence of my sin. praise God. Just like the blind man that Jesus opened his eyes in John chapter 9. He said ”whether the man was a sinner or not all i know is that once i am blind but now i can see” whether Chirst was born on 25th Dec. or not. All I know is that Christ came to this world he saved me a wretched sinner. Praise the Lord Jesus.

    • Praise God Brother Stephen. And to add on, all unbiblical feasts were introduced with the main aim of making money but not really to concentrate on His Holy Word.

    • What is “Christmas”? Take a keen look at the word itself…no ‘Christian’ chose the 25th December, it was chosen by pagan in celebration of their gods. Why should anyone who believes in God defend “Christmas” on the first place? Do you think God overlooked this fact or why do you think God didn’t explicitly tell us the exact day/date when Christ Jesus was born?
Christmas is a pagan practice, it’s as simple as such.

      Ahl

    • I agree, the 25th of the 12 month is not our current generation 12/25.

It’s interesting article says birth of Christ was in March, I believe it’s during feast of tabernacles – as Christ was born in a Manger, and there are 8 days, the 8 day circumcision. I could see because the lambs are born in March / spring. Can you elaborate more of proof he’s born in March?

  2. Oh Praise Him in the morning, Praise Him in the Noon, Praise Him till the Sun goes down! He is the Prince of Peace and His Name is Jesus!

  3. If really the 25th of December was the day Jesus was born was then people die so much people get drunk and do all sots of unholy things i mean really is this the way we must celebrate the birth of the most holy….THINK ABOUT IT

  4. This is a day all kind of sins are comitted not the birth day of the holy prophet isa ibn mariam may the duplicate jesus of the whites and yesu/yesu of ugandans

  5. Once again all of the problems people have with the bible could of been avoided if the authors had recorded actual dates. I find this allows many events in the bible to be ambiguous,is this just a way of making it difficult to disprove certain biblical events?
If I were recording the life and times of a very important person I would include dates to prove beyond doubt that what I said was true and checkable.

  6. Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always, i repeat, rejoice” Hence 25th December its just a pagan, it has nothing to do with serving our Lord, Jesus Christ

  7. Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always, i repeat, rejoice” Hence 25th December its just a pagan, it has nothing to do with serving our Lord, Jesus Christ

  8. Philippians 4:4 “Rejoice in the Lord always, i repeat, rejoice” Hence 25th December its just a pagan, it has nothing to do with serving our Lord, Jesus Christ

  9. We must endeavor to speak Bible things by Bible language. It is clearly stated in the Bible is enough for us and not thinking that the Bible writers are inconsistent(John 21:25 ;2Tim.3:16).How would a reasonable person in his autobiography state his remembrance but no birth remembrance. In His statement He said “Before Abraham I am”-John 8:48-49.This is a clear indication that the birth is not necessary.

  10. Jesus was not born in 25 th December but this was exactly date when the king of Judah was released from prisoner by the king of Babylon. If really the 25th of December was the day Jesus was born, so why then people die so much, people get drunk and do all sots of unholy things…i mean really is this the way we must celebrate the birth of the Most Holy God?….THINK ABOUT IT
The person who came up with this date knows exactly the reason why he/she decided to come up with this date “25th December”, and many people are deceived by following this demonic tradition by the name of christmas having the hope that they are celebrating for Jesu’s birthday. Thats the reason why we must not celebrate our birthdays. There is no any kind of specific day for celebrating the birth of Jesus, because He gave us an opportunity to worship Him every day and night without waiting for any certain time or day to worship Him…hence why the word of God said that we must watch and pray.

  11. Jesus christ was not born on 25 December
People who celebrate 25 December..they’re celebrating release by king of judah
